PROMOS: Study Trips

Via PROMOS Ruhr-Universität Bochum also funds study trips of 5 up to 15 students (PhD students included) for 5 up to 12 days (arrival and departure included). Study trips including seminar attendance at RUB partner universities (on central or faculty level) can be funded up to a maximum duration of 30 days. The trip has to be accompanied by at least one academic staff member (who can be funded as well).

Important notes and limitations

The trip has to provide the students with expertise in their field of study, it has to focus on aspects related to the host culture and has to bring together students and researchers from Germany and the host country. Mandatory trips and excursions that have already ended may not be funded. Additionally, touristic trips as well as concert tours and trips to conventions are excluded from any funding.

PhD students may consult the DAAD's homepage for further information regarding funding for trips to conventions and lecture tours. Students attending a concert tour need to directly apply at the DAAD.

Groups need to consist of 5 to 15 students (from the 2nd semester on, PhD students included) who are enrolled at RUB as full-time students. The group has to be led by an academic staff member of Ruhr-Universität Bochum. This staff member also has to apply for the PROMOS funding. Participants need to be either German citizens or persons who are on a par with Germans according to § 8 Absatz 1 Ziffer 2 ff., Absatz 2, 2a und 3 BAföG. International degree-seeking students enrolled at RUB can be funded in all subprogrammes, as long as they do not intend to stay in their home country.

The number of participants is limited to a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 students (PhD students included). For study trips to partner universites of Ruhr-Universität Bochum (on central or faculty level) that require students to attend seminars and/or lectures can be funded up to 30 days. Funds include a one-time allowance consisting of € 30.- per person and day for trips to EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey. For trips to any other country a one-time allowance of € 45.- will be awarded.
